1.5 years

2. Class time?

5:30 a.m. Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. Saturday – both at Beaverton/East gym.

3. What made you start doing CrossFit?

I was a fan of the Games and was already lifting weights and going to bootcamp, so after over a year of thinking I should do CrossFit, I finally just decided to do it! And here I am.

4. Favorite CrossFit movement?

Deadlift, power clean/snatch, toes to rings

5. Least favorite movement?

Probably thrusters. Or if I’m having a bad double under day, double unders.

6. If you could design a CrossFit WOD, what would it be?

6 rounds: 10 reasonably heavy deadlifts, 10 toes to rings, 200 meter run. Or maybe all of those movements in a 30 minute EMOM.

7. Hobbies outside of CrossFit?

Running, yoga, home decor, reading, and baking.

8. Tell us something most people don’t know about you

I am a karaoke enthusiast (what I lack in vocal skills I make up for in stage presence)

9. What was your first CrossFit WOD?

Helen

10. Biggest effect CrossFit has has on your life?

I struggled with an eating disorder for a pretty good chunk of time in college/post-college and was obsessed with being as skinny as possible. So I starved myself and spent hours on an elliptical or treadmill essentially trying to make myself disappear. I was miserable. Finally, after years of work on my recovery, to find something as empowering as CrossFit – where the movements for women aren’t dumbed down, our weights aren’t pink, we’re not trying to just get “toned” – and to find a form of exercise that‘s performance driven rather than aesthetically driven – where my goal is to deadlift 300 pounds rather than to weigh less than 90 pounds – it‘s been a game changer for me. If I had known about CrossFit back in college and could have channeled that negative energy into something positive, I think it could have saved me. But I’m so glad it’s part of my life now. It’s my favorite.
